SYROBONKUS - 300 × 300mm Intaglio print from a metalwork mother plate, hand printed on 280gsm Somerset Velvet Radiant White, presented in casebound print folio.
Presented in 324mm × 324mm × 30mm acrylic slipcase. Finished by hand and silk screen printed to front.

Soundcloudissa on tullut vastaan aika liuta tommosta erittäin Rephlexahtavaa, Aphex Twinille haiskahtavaa artistia viime päivinä. Kaikki tilit linkkautuvat repostaamalla biisejä tai seuraamalla toisiaan. Jotkut ovat julkaisseet Aphex Twin -remixejä, yhdellä tilillä on esim. "Aphex Twin/Squarepusher - Unreleased (4khos bootleg rmx)" -biisi. Joissain biiseissä hienoja Melodies from Mars -viboja.

Löysin ekan sattumalta Facebookista tommosen Syror Sovskynas -hahmon kautta. Huvitti, kun hain Fesessä uuden Syro-levyn nimellä, mutta sit päädyinkin ton hahmon sivulle. Ja sit huomasin, että meillä oli kaksi yhteistä Facebook-kaveria, toinen Rephlexille levyttävä Ovuca-Aleksi, ja toinen Rephlexin perustaja Grant (jota en kyl oikeasti ole koskaan tavannutkaan).

No mutta. Jännää musaa, ja menee ehkä off-topiciksi, mutta postaanpa nyt tänne kuitenkin. Artisteja penkomalla löytyy lisää:

niin. täähän on tismalleen samaa musaa kuin mitä aphex twin teki vuonna 2001. silloin kuulosti ihan parhaalta, nytkin hyvältä, mut onhan tuosta joku magiikka kadonnut.

koneempaa-meiningeissä tietty odotetaan et pitäis koko ajan kulkea teknologian aallonharjalla. meikälle vuoden 2014 saundi on melkoisen vastenmielistä kuunneltavaa, et sinänsä jees et ei näytä aphexiakaan hirveesti kiinnostavan. icon_cool

Hyvä tää uus biisi on, vaikka ei pää totaalisesti räjähäkkään. Aika samoilla leveleillä kuin The Tuss -julkaisut vm. 2007. AOIDM.

Vaatii taas monta kuuntelukertaa, että osaa sanoa tykkäänkö Syrosta, mutta hienoja kohtia levy on täynnä. Selkeää jatkoa Analordille ja The Tussille, vaikka grooven määrä yllätti. Koko levyssä sama henki, kuin ekassa näytebiisissä: ei tätä musaa ainakaan vaivaa tarve todistella mitään.

Levyn ensikuuntelu vasta puolessavälissä, mutta pannaan vähän liveseurannan tynkää.

Onhan tämä tosi vaikea levy. Yleensä vasta biisien lopussa havahtuu, että jokin alussa tapailtu idea on puhjennut kukoistukseen.

Kakkosraita XMASissa kahdeksan minuutin kohdalla alkoi potkia lujaa.

Kolmosesta ja nelosesta ei jäänyt ensikuuntelulla mitään mieleen.

VItosraita 180db_ oli varsion mainiota soundia. Tuli mieleen Actress!

Kutosraita on vähän hullumpaa RDJ:tä, mutta tämäkin on niin vaikeaselkoinen raita, että en sano vielä mitään.

Kasiraidassa alkaa hieman tylsistyttää. Soundipaletti ei ole niin kirjava kuin mihin RDJ olisi tosissaan yrittämällä pystynyt. Tämä on hieno levy, jossa ei ole havaittavissa mitään painetta pistää elektronisen musiikin kenttää uusiksi. Oisko sitten pitänyt edes vähän yrittää, on toinen kysymys.

Levy on upeasti miksattu ja masteroitu. Ekaa kertaa pitkästä aikaa kuuntelen mieluiten flaccina.

PAPAT4 - Jotain pappamusiikkia? Ei, vaan levyn parhaita ensikuuntelubiisejä. Tässä on tarpeeksi yksinkertainen idea tavallisen kuolevaisen pollalle.

Raita numero 11. Palataan takaisin kauas menneisyyteen, aikaan, jolloin drum'n'bass ei ollut vielä automainoksissa. Onkohan tämä nyt enemmänkin drill'n'bassia. En pidä tätä biisiä huonona, mutta en jaksa uskoa, että tämä on tehty muutaman viime vuoden aikana. Taas lopussa esitellään jotain jalostuneempaa. Padit lienevät Korgin Wavestationia (EDIT: Näköjään aika lähellä, Korg DS8).

Pitchfork: I noticed the title of the last song on the album, the solo piano one, is "Anastasia" spelled backwards.
RDJ: Yeah, it's written for my wife. When I first did that, I did this installation-y art thing at the Barbican with a remote orchestra. [The song] was made on my Disklavier [controlled piano], which was swung from the roof at that gig, and there was this massive Doppler effect. It is pretty mental. There's a bad cameraphone version of it on YouTube, but in the flesh it's fucking amazing. To listen to this piano swinging, you almost see all the notes stretching out, so it'll hit you at different times. I never knew if it was going to work or not, and everyone was like, What the fuck is he swinging a piano for? But when we actually got it going, we were just like, fucking hell. It was so extreme. My friends were like, Are the strings stretching? The pitch deviation is that big, it sounds like the actual frame is contorting.
