He says he moved to LA to become an action movie star, just like his heroes Jean-Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone.
Also part of this iconic cluster is J.G. Ballard: Ferraro echoes the late novelist when he talks of movie stars as modern deities embodying qualities that human beings have admired since the dawn of time. High Rise (1975) and Kingdom Come (2006) spring to mind when you read the sleevenote description of Headlines (Access Hollywood) from 2010s album Last American Hero. The song is about people who get trapped in Costco (a bulk-buy, budget-price hypermarket) and devolve into a mutant tribe whose children, born within the settlement, grow up with no conception of a world beyond.

Not sure if this is the full-length movie that James was working on during his Hollywood retreat but its based in crime-ridden Rochester, New York, in the near future and centres on a police officer who is brutally murdered and subsequently recreated as a super-human cyborg. The main plot of the movie revolves around a Bug (code word for a member of an alien species that is similar in many ways to a very large cockroach) searching for a miniature galaxy which is also a vast energy source.
Acid Eagle is the president of Hell-TV (Channel 83, Cable 12) a sleazy television station specialising in sensationalistic programming. Displeased with his stations current lineup (which mostly consists of softcore pornography), Professor Pizza is on a seemingly endless quest for something that isnt so soft and will break through to a new audience. The rescue turns out to be fake; the two climbers are taken prisoner by a group of ruthless thieves. The driver is now a hostage trapped by his own seatbelt. However, the robot becomes smarter and more dangerous as it plays putting the boy and his friends in mortal danger. In addition to being an action film, the movie includes larger themes regarding the media, resurrection, gentrification, corruption and human nature.
Could this be the most hypnagogic product ever made? Hundebiss seem to think so, describing it as a virtual videogame car chase through the veins of hyperreality seen through fragments of US movies mostly produced in the 1990s and diffracted by the euro-lens of Dutch subtitling and French dubbing.
They add: To achieve optimal melting these fragments have been transferred from tapes, DVDs and computer files to VHS.

Incredible new direction for Ferraro, one that is likely to divide fans. Personally I think this is amazing and a total surprise. This is like futuristic muzak as imagined in the early 90s. A much cleaner, brighter sound with production values that evoke epic, bright dome-like shopping malls around the Christmas holidays. Nothing lo-fi or druggie about this but the whole concept is further out-there than anything Ferraro has touched on before. This also comes across as a celebration of the kind of music that accompanies those 20-minute cable adverts for abdominal Flexi Belts, one that puts this music on a pedestal and elevates it to high art, much in the same way JD Emmanuel made an artform out of new age muzak. Totally original and so far removed from all other contemporary underground music thats youd think Ferraro has been living in a bubble. Highly recommended.

ainoa levy, jolla olen kuullut yhtä rumia saundeja kuin tällä ferraron uudella, on zappan jazz from hell. tämän "digitaalisemmalta" tai steriilimmältä kuulostavaa musaa ei varmaan ole edes tehty. uskomatonta kuinka hyvin homma silti tai siis juuri siksi toimii pimp peuk

Kiinnostava levy tämä viime vuonne julkaistu Far Side Virtual. Ysärin alun digitaalisuuden nostalgisointia. Tulee jostain syystä ekana mieleen Seinfeldin lavasteet. Tää on ehkä soitettu samalla syntikalla kuin Seinfeldin tunnari.

James Ferraro, aka Bodyguard Silica Gel

James Ferraros 2011 release Far Side Virtual was The Wire Magazines Album of the Year. He followed that up late 2011 with a self-released super-synth R&B/hiphop-styled INHALE C 4 $$$$$ under the moniker Bebetune$ on his own label b3BETUNES. Pitchfork didnt get it (what a surprise). James Ferraros roots lie in noise music. He used to be part of The Skaters with Spencer Clark. You can hear those roots even in his more accessible pop.
Hes just dropped a new bunch of tunes, Silica Gel, under yet another moniker Bodyguard. Like all the cool kids, hes shaking it in a sleazy LA Club style sweet, sickly synth and hazy R&B pop grooves, just right for late-night slow dancing. Im sold. A studio album is apparently due out in the not-too-distant future, and rumoured to be released on Hippos In Tanks. Meanwhile, you can listen to Silica Gel below, and afterwards download it for free OVER HERE.
