Introduction to Syd Barrett Ltd. 2LP Vinyl Coming for Record Store Day
Late last year, Harvest/EMI and Capitol Records released this best of collection of Syd Barrett material on CD and download, featuring some remastering and remixing by David Gilmour and marking the first time Barretts Floyd and solo-era stuff has been combined on a single release. The cover art, seen left, was designed by longtime album-art mastermind Strom Thorgerson, whose conceptual designs include the iconic covers of albums such as Floyds Dark Side of the Moon and Delicate Sound of Thunder, Zeppelins In Through the Out Door, and a whole bunch more. Now, Capitol/EMI have announced that An Introduction To Syd Barrett will be released on April 16th (Record Store Day) as a limited edition, 180-gram double-LP in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves, to be sold exclusively by participating Record Store Day stores. The love letters that expose the romantic side of a young Syd Barrett

Lost love letters written by Syd Barrett Pink Floyd's Crazy Diamond reveal for the first time a romantic and fun-loving young man who was nothing like the erratic drug casualty he was to become.
The missives, seen exclusively by The Independent on Sunday, are to go on display at a new exhibition about his life in London next month. Written between the ages of 15 and 18 to Libby Chisden, his girlfriend at the time, they show a tender side to the star, who died five years ago, aged 60, from pancreatic cancer.
Speaking from her home in West Sussex this weekend, Ms Chisden, 65, recalled the time she first met Barrett, whose real name was Roger, when they were both 15.

Dear Jen, you are a little dish.

I'll tell you everything that happened at the recording. We took all the gear into the studio which was lit by horrid white lights, and covered with wires and microphones. Rog had his amp behind a screen and Nicki was also screened off, and after a little bit of chat we tested everything for balance, and then recorded five numbers more or less straight off; but only the guitars and drums. We're going to add all the singing and piano etc. next Wednesday. The tracks sound terrific so far, especially King Bee.

When I sing I have to stand in the middle of the studio with ear phones on, and everyone else watches from the other room, and I can't see them at all but they can all see me. Also I can only just hear what I'm singing.

I hope you got home alright Jen, and that you had a good time. You wouldn't have been able to come in to the recording and anyway it went on till after midnight, and would have been a whopping drag for you.

It was a nice thing to be which was tra tra la. (do not bother to interrupt)

Do what you want Jen. I love you very much and want to hear from you and you are very pretty.

I am a bit fed up with everything today and I want to be in Cambridge or Greece but not in London where all I do is spend money and travel. The sun is shining though.

Syd Barrett Artwork Stolen from London Gallery

A Syd Barrett self portrait painting was stolen from Londons Idea Generation Gallery on Saturday 9 April, it was part of the Syd Barrett Arts & Letters exhibition.

Libby Gausden, the owner of the painting and a former girlfriend of Syds has issued a heartfelt plea for its return.

A reward of £2,000 has been offered for information leading to the paintings safe return callers should contact Ideas Generation Gallery on Tel: 020 7749 6850.

Syd Barrett painted the self portrait between 1961 and 1962 and gave it to Libby Gausden, his then girlfriend. This was the first exhibition to have shown the 31cm x 23cm painting.

Libby Gausden said, I am very upset at the theft of the painting, it has huge personal value to me and I am appealing for its safe return.

Eloise Rowley, Gallery Manager, confirmed that the painting was stolen from Idea Generation Gallery, 11 Chance Street, EC2, on Saturday afternoon between 2.15 3pm.

Today we can confirm that Syd's self-portrait has been returned! The condition is fine and we are all very relieved and happy. Thank you to everyone who helped get the word out about the theft, we are sure it contributed to the return of the painting.

Onkos kukaan menossa Watersia katsomaan? Itse aion mennä huomenna. Klo. 20.00 alkaa keikka ja sisältää väliajan. Eli pitkä keikka taitaa jälleen olla tulossa ja hyvä niin. Ainakin Roskildessa muutama vuosi sitten tykkäsin paljon.

Taustamuusikoiden soitossa oli kyllä mun korvaan läpisoittamisen tuntua, mutta se lienee väistämätöntä tollasessa isossa show-produktiossa.

En ollut edes ajatellut koko The Wallia aika pitkään aikaan niin sainpas kunnon muistutuksen siitä, kuinka hyviä noi biisit onkaan ja kuinka hieno ja monitahoinen toi tarina.

Olipahan aika spektaakkeli. Huikea show, musiikki oli melkein sivuosassa. Koki kyllä saaneensa rahoille vastinetta. Muurin päällä soittava kitaristi spottivalossa, en tiedä oliko se maailman korneinta vai maailman siisteintä. Visut toimi, muuri toimi ja muu tilpehööri. Yleisö ei oikein ollut messissä, mikä on aika perus isoilla keikoilla. Roger Watersin lavakarisma katoaa, kun se ottaa soittimen pois kädestä eikä se pienen miehen heiluminen oikein toiminut täpöllä eikä mies nyt maailman paras laulajakaan ole, vaikka oli hänelläkin hetkensä. Kokonaisuutena kuitenkin sellanen ysin keikka, kun show oli niin huikea. Visuaalisesti yksi siisteimpiä näkemiäni.

Sama kaikkeen! Ja lisään vielä, että Waters lauloi selkeästi paremmin, kuin levyllä aikoinaan, mikä on todella hämmentävää. Ainahan sillä on ollu hutera ääni, eikä vieläkään mestarillinen, mutta ihmeellistä miten se nyt vanhempana laulaa paljon paremmin ku sillon nuorempana. On ihan selkeästi ottanu laulutunteja.

Joo, siis itsekin olin yllättynyt kyllä siitä, että miten hyvin se kuitenkin loppupeleissä laulo, vaikkei se mikään David Gilmour ole.

Hyvin pitkälti olen samaa mieltä Pilken ja Junkiemanin kanssa keikasta. Bändi soitti ihan ok, paitsi In The Fleshissä, joka oli vedetty ihan käsittämättömäksi heviksi. Roskildeen keikkaan verrattuna Waters ei paljoa biisien välissä jutellut, mikä nyt ei The Wallin tapaiseen teokseen olisi oikein sopinutkaan. Encoreakaan ei kuultu, mutta eipä sekään olisi oikein kuvioihin sopinut. Upea show joka tapauksessa.

For what it's worth: The tape has at least been digitally transferred, so the recording is safe. As for speculations about official release, we'll see if anything leaks from Saturday's event. Hopefully it doesn't. If EMI weren't bullshitting Lind, and he wasn't bullshitting us, the concert will be released. If it means another PATGOD, so be it, though I'd much prefer a 2CD 1965-68 rarities set with the Stockholm show on one disc. Just the concert as a standalone release would be fine, too.
It would be extremely out of character for PF to release something as amateurish as this, but if they've expressed an intention to do so, I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. If Ms. Peelfan is right about the technical possibilities, there may even be a significant upgrade coming our way!

Now the taper (Anders Lind) told us EMI had tried to stop this event. He had been to the UK to play the tape for them, but he wouldn't let them have it. And he didn't play the whole tape. On the tape is a very rare jam session, that we didn't get to hear this evening. Anders called it "Never and since" as Roger says something like that on the tape.
If I understood it correctly, EMI wants to do a re-release (again) of "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" and use Anders' tape as Bonus material on it. And because of this Anders' politely asked us not to tape or film. "Nothing on YouTube", he said. He didn't say anything about Yeeshkul, though , but I did not record this. My friend took a lot of pictures that I maybe can post here later.
