Richard Bishop (nyk. taiteilijanimenä Sir Richard Bishop) on brittiläinen manageri, pianisti, kitaristi ja muusikko, joka tuli Suomessa tunnetuksi 1980-luvulla Hanoi Rocksin toisena managerina ja yhtyeen Britannian asioiden vastaajana. Lisäksi hän työskenteli yhtyeiden The Soft Boys, Urban Dogs ja Fallen Angels kanssa.
Lokakuussa 1981 Bishop tapasi Englannin kiertueella olleen nuoren suomalaisyhtyeen Hanoi Rocksin. Yhtyeen suomalainen manageri Seppo Vesterinen otti Bishopin työkumppanikseen ja he alkoivat manageroida yhtyettä yhdessä. Kesällä 1982 Bishop matkusteli Yhdysvalloissa ja perusti Arizonassa, Phoenixissä veljensä Alanin (basso ja laulu) ja Charles Goghenin (rummut) kanssa yhtyeen kokeilevaa rockia soittavan Sun City Girls-yhtyeen. 1983 Seppo Vesterinen Ja Richard Bishop perustivat oman levymerkkinsä Lick Records eli tunnetummin Lick, jonka ensimmäinen julkaisu oli single Malibu Beach / Rebel On The Run. Yhtyeen Britanniaan suuntautuneet julkaisut julkaistiin tästä lähtien Lick-levymerkillä, samoin siltä julkaistiin Britanniassa ennen julkaisemattomat Hanoi Rocksin kolme ensimmäistä albumia Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks, Oriental Beat ja Self Destruction Blues 12. elokuuta 1983. Back to Mystery City julkaistiin samoin Lick-levymerkiltä toukokuussa 1983. Yhtyeen tehtyä levytyssopimuksen CBS:n kanssa Vesterisen ja Bishopin Lick-levymerkin merkitys väheni, kun Two Steps from the Move-julkaistiin CBS:ltä Bob Ezrinin johdolla. Viimeinen Hanoi Rocks-julkaisu Lick levy-merkiltä oli elokuussa 1985 julkaistu puolivirallinen Rock & Roll Divorce. Tämän jälkeen Hanoi Rocksin viimeinen kokoonpano Andy McCoy, Nasty Suicide, Timo Kaltio, Terry Chimes perusti Cherry Bombz, jonka asioita Bishop alkoi hoitaa. Samoin Cherry Bombz -julkaisut julkaistiin Lick-levymerkiltä. Bishop uskoi Cherry Bombzin menestykseen ja sijoitti siihen osan Hanoi Rocksin laulajan Michael Monroen rahaosuudesta, joka oli syntynyt Hanoi Rocksin vanhan katalogin myymisestä. Ylioptimismi ei kuitenkaan tuottanut rahoja takaisin ja Monroe katkeroitui Bishopille pitkäksi ajaksi. Monroe syytti Bishopia ahneudestakin, mutta muut yhtyeen jäsenet olivat tyytyväisiä manageriinsa.
Cherry Bombzin hajoamisen jälkeen Bishop muutti Los Angelesiin ja keskittyi Sun City Gils-yhtyeeseensä. Koko historiansa aikana yhtye on julkaissut lähes 100 albumia ja nauhoitetta. Itse yhtyeessä hän soittaa kitaraa ja pianoa. 1998 Bishop julkaisi ensimmäisen sooloalbuminsa Salvador Kali nimellä Sir Richard Bishop, jona hän on nykyään maailmalla tunnettu. Tämän jälkeen on ilmestynyt albumeita Improvika vuonna 2004, Fingering The Devil ja Elektornika Demonika vuonna 2006 ja viimeisin While My Guitar Violently Bleeds vuonna 2007. Sir Richard Bishopin musiikki ja esiintyminen on saanut erittäin suuria vaikutteita intialaisten, pohjoisafrikkalaisten ja mustalaisten musiikista. Vuonna 2005 Sir Richard Bishop aloitti laajan kiertueen Euroopassa, Australiassa ja Yhdysvalloissa. Tiheä keikka- ja kiertuetahti on jatkunut edelleen vuosina 2006 ja 2007.

"In September of 2004, Sun City Girls were asked to play at the Experience Music Project in Seattle as part of the Bumbershoot Festival. Sub Pop had recently approached SCG for a possible "best of" record release. Audience members included Sub Pop executives, families with strollers, etc. For some reason, SCG were never invited back."

Recent LP by Messenger Girls Trio, got myself a copy a coupla months back, it's outstanding. Actually, it's better than outstanding!!!

"Messenger Girls Trio, The Excelsior Salon Trio... comprised of Sir Richard Bishop (by appointment to her majesty -- what the old broad did to deserve that, we'll never know) and David Knott (improvisationally board certified music therapist), in congress with Robert Millis and Jeffery Taylor (often known for their recreational duties in both Climax Golden Twins and AFCGT). The quartet last released a trio album in 2002 for the Anomalous Record label. Or perhaps the trio released a quartet album. After that Richard Bishop toured. Dave Knott put people's minds back together or took them apart -- it just depends on your point of view. Climax Golden Twins devoured 78rpm records and other Victrola favorites. Meanwhile the quartet trio tape kept rolling-cassette players, digital devices, dictaphones, micro cassette, wire recorders, phonautographs, notes on paper. Edited from hours of material recorded between 2002 and 2008. Mostly improvised in living rooms and on front porches. Mostly in Seattle: on Goat Hill, at the Shabby Greenwood Grotto Studio and at the Sun City Girls' cavernous Blue West headquarters, may it rest in piec es. inside gatefold. Anyhow, just a few quick impressions. I've only had time to play it a couple times in the last few days.
The vinyl is limited and selling fast from what I understand. There is a CD edition coming out at the end of October and it comes in a mini-gatefold sleeve as well. But really the vinyl is where its at, no?

joo, kyllä tässä tais niin käydä että vuoden paras levy ja ylipäätään kaikkien aikojen paras sunkkarilevy. loppuun asti viimeistelty, ei täyteraitoja, paikoin aivan uskomattoman hienoja melodioita ja juttuja, erityisesti tekee mieli mainita a-puolen päättävä upean elokuvallinen instrumentaali vine street piano ja jokseenkin spykedeelisen mestarillinen holy ground. ja kun koko homma vielä pakattu mahtavaan värilliseen ja tyylikkääseen gatefoldiin, painos 1000 kpl, uusintapainoksia ei tulossa niin vaikea keksiä fiksumpaa sijoitusta, tätähän on levykauppa äxässäkin jos ei jaksa ulkomailta yrittää etsiä, veikkaan että menee suht nopeasti.

The story behind the recordings germinated in late 1997 when the group took up residency at Scott Colburns Gravelvoice Studio in Seattle to record 28 reels of new material on half-inch tape. The approximately 14 hours of new music included tracks which eventually formed the albums Bullet through the Last Temple and The Handsome Stranger (Volumes 4 and 8 of the Carnival Folklore Resurrection series) along with an assortment of improvisations and many other outtakes that have never been released. Also recorded at that time were basic tracks for nine of the eleven songs which were to be the foundation of a new studio album the band planned on finishing within the year. Over a decade later, through seemingly countless setbacks and various circumstances which perpetually delayed the completion of overdubs and post-production, those nine tracks plus two additional songs recorded in the early 2000s manifest as the final, fully produced Sun City Girls studio album. With Charles Gochers extended illness and eventual passing in 2007, only 8 tracks feature his presence with the Bishop Brothers working around his absence on the remaining 3 songs. Regardless of what some may conclude, the title of the LP was decided in 2001 and, although seemingly prophetic after the fact, had nothing to do with the idea of this being considered the last SCG record. This limited one-time LP pressing comes housed in a beautiful, heavy duty full-color gatefold jacket.

tässä vaiheessa muuten joutuu toteamaan, että funeral mariachi ei ole ainoastaan vuoden paras levy, vaan taitaapa olla toistaiseksi jopa koko alkaneen vuosituhannen upein albumi colorflash
