On kyllä hyvä tuo uusi Swansea Sound -albumi, vaikkei toki Pooh Sticksin suurimmille klassikoille pärjää. Hyviä sanoituksiakin, kun ne levyn mukana tulee, esim. Freedom Of Speech -biisissä käsittääkseni vittuillaan ensin Morrisseylle, sitten John Lydonille ja lopuksi koko tälle naurettavalle MAGA/QAnon-posselle.
Todellinen tärkein sanoma tosin löytyy jo avausraidasta Rock'n'roll Void: kolmevuotiaana Kinks, 13-vuotiaana Ramones, 16-vuotiaana oma bändi ja loppu on historiaa. Musiikki on parasta tässä elämässä
Kaksi laulajaa jota erityisesti arvostan:
Hue Williams
Amelia Fletcher

Just found the original stamper for "On Tape". If you look closely you can see the imperfections which cruelly resulted in it sounding like the guitars (and singing, and bass) were out of tune. Confirmed: not our fault.

pooh sticksien muistelua nyt kun meat loaf on kuollut:
'The Great White Wonder' was recorded with a copy of the Bat' placed, altar-like, between the NS10s. Later, everyone was happy when the boy Rundgren agreed to produce what would've been the album after 'Million Seller'. Part of that plan was to try and convince Amelia to sing lead on a cover of ZZ Top's "Rough Boy", preferably as a duet with Meat. (Look, in 1993, making phone calls in a NYC studio overlooking Bryan Ferry's rooftop terrace, this is the kinda thing that was, incredibly, on the actual motherfuckin' table.)
In 1990, from the very first recording for 'The Great White Wonder' sessions, with 'motorcycle guitar' intro:

kokoelmalevy tulossa:
Pooh Sticks - Straight Up: Noise Pollution C88-90 LP
Release Date: May 26 2023
New Band compiled LP of the Pooh Sticks Hits and Misses. Pressed on Blue vinyl and Presented in gatefold sleeve. Includes poster.
Here is what Trudi says
‘Mellifluous’… is a word you won’t hear much when conversation turns to early Pooh Sticks records. But ‘noise pollution’, sure: that comes up. I’ve even used it myself. So look away now if you must: ‘Straight Up: Noise Pollution C88-90’ is a selection of some of the most loved/despised/ignored tracks released by The Pooh Sticks on however many records it was before it all went wilfully ‘American’ sometime around dotted-line’ing for BMG mega-corp in 1991.The record has highlights and lowlights. You and me, we’d probably agree on most of them. We chose a reasonable cross-section, I think (although there could’ve been more tambourine), including:
- “On Tape” - zeitgeist-nailin’ strum and strangle
- “I Know Someone Who Knows Someone Who Knows Alan McGee Quite Well” - long title
- “Teenage High” - breathy sweetness sneaked onto the depraved Sympathy For The Record Industry label
- “Dying For It” - the Vaselines cover which beat Nirvana by a full two years (though theirs sold better)
… and more! It’s like Christmas (no, blocking up the chimney won’t help: we’ve cut spare keys). And all of this in a nice gatefold sleeve, and on Steve McQueen’s-eyes blue vinyl. And there’s even a repro poster for the March ’89 Pastels/Pooh Sticks/Vaselines gig up London way (“I swear I was there”, people say).
On behalf of the group, I hope you enjoy it. No, really. It was all a long time ago but I remember we had fun. Maybe you were even there having fun with us.
Trudi xx

hi there,
hope you are having a good summer so far...
We want to let you know that our new single 'Keep Your Head On' will be released on 20 June. It's taken from our upcoming album 'Twentieth Century' (pre-orders from 20 June, release date 8th September).
'Keep Your Head On' will mainly be a digital thing, but we have made seven lathe-cut 7" singles. Four of these are for the band to keep. Three are for the public, but they won't be put on sale. This is where they will be made available...
1... at our gig at the Lexington in London on 30th June. The lathe-cut 7" single will be won in a raffle. The raffle is free to enter for everyone who comes to the show. (tickets: www.wegottickets.com/event/573954)
2... on Bandcamp. One person who pre-orders the new album will win a copy of the 7" single, with the winner's name chosen at random.
3... at our album launch gig at Rough Trade East on 9th September. (Please note that you will get into this gig for free if you purchase the LP or CD of 'Twentieth Century' from Rough Trade.) More details about this show will emerge on 20 June.We will be doing lots of gigs in the Autumn - we'll share the dates very soon. Hope to see you later in the year!

You get to listen, hear what you’ve been missing… celebrating Swansea Sound’s Twentieth Century

uusi video, tehty ottamalla pätkiä 80-lukulaisen walesilaisen syntikkapopparin muinaisesta videosta
We got in touch with him and asked if we could use his footage in our video for Paradise. He was incredibly friendly and said ‘yes’.
The video features Malcolm Neon, performing 'Paid Gadael Fynd'.
'Paradise' is taken from Swansea Sound's album 'Twentieth Century'.

paras biisi: call me carnival (en löytänyt youtubesta tätä enkä muitakaan)
