In C kuulostaa aivan mahtavalta. Wikipedia, hoitaisitko mutkikkaan selvitystyön puolestani.

olen kuullut Rainbow in a curved airin joka oli ikävä kyllä aika huono...

in c:stä olen kuullut vain acid mothers templen version, ja se on ainakin todella hieno.

Huono? Huh huh...

Itselleni tuo Rainbow in Curved Air on jotakuinkin hienoimpia saavutuksia mihin ihminen on koskaan, millään elämän osa-alueella, yltänyt. Ja heti perään on todettava, että en ole kuullut yhtään Terry Riley levyä, josta en olisi suuresti pitänyt. (Ainoana poikkeuksena ehkäpä uudehko Atlantis Nath, joka on pistää niin sanotusti rapsuttamaan päätä. Hämmentää.)

Rainbow in Curved Air on ehkäpä klassisin ja tunnetuin noista Rileyn sooloekskursioista sinne jonnekin, loppumattomiin alati muuttuviin tilutusluoliin ja kaikumetsiin. Jos tykkää In C:stä (josta olemassa siis useita tallenteita) niin ei välttämättä kuitenkaan pidä noista riistummista tekeleistä. Mutta tuon hienon kuvailun perusteella (leija) suosittelen Laatulle ehdottomasti kaivautumista syvemälle ja alkaen juuri tuosta Rainbowsta, samaa värikästä virtaa on löydettävissä. Sen jälkeen vaikkapa Persian Surgery Dervishes ja Shri Camel.

Erityistä herkkua ovat vuosituhannen vaihteessa julkaistut Organ of Corti sarjan levyt. Esimerkiksi Music for the Gift sisältää "Mescalin Mix" nimisen raidan, joka on huuruisinta kuulemaani musiikkia ikinä, leijumista jättimäisen pumpulitupon sisällä. Totaalinen takaisin kohtuun no-groove. Toinen suosikkini sarjassa on Reed Streams, jossa kahden erinomaisen urku/delay-jamin lisäksi kanadalaisen rokkibändin L'Infonien versio In C:stä. Hakkaa mun kirjoissa AMT-yrityksen 6-0. Noo, ei se mitään oikeasti hakkaa, tää on kuitenkin aika väkivallatonta musaa. Mutta voimakasta! Näistä on just taidettu ottaa jotain uusia painoksiakin.

All of the concerts will be broadcast on RTÉ lyric fms Nova programme, (Sunday evenings, 8pm-10pm, on 96-99fm). Louth Contemporary Music Society acknowledges the financial support of the Arts Council in making this event possible. Terry Riley was strongly influenced by jazz and tape loop experiments when he began composing repetitive music. In 1964, Riley composed In C, which is generally considered the benchmark work of American Minimal music. Its impact was to change the course of 20th Century music and its influence has been heard in the works of prominent composers such as Steve Reich, Philip Glass and John Adams and many prominent rock bands such as The Who, Brian Eno and Curved Air. Later works like Cadenza on the Night Plain was selected by both Time and Newsweek as one of the 10 Best Classical Albums Of The Year. The epic string quartet cycle, Salome Dances for Peace, was selected as the #1 Classical Album Of The Year by USA Today magazine and was nominated for a Grammy.

Internet löytää aika vähän tietoa tästä, mutta jossain kuvailtiin tähän tyyliin:

Suosittelen tutustumaan! Hipoo täydellisyyttä ainakin meikäläisen korvissa. Levyä löytyy suht hyvin myös kirjastoista, go tsek it out.

Mulla on nyt kaksi eri versiota tuosta In C:stä, mutta tuota 2001-versiota ei tunnu löytyvän nurkista.

Eilen keikalla tämä, poikansa ja Crash Ensemblen kanssa

Ensin vähä ragaili syntsansa kans, sitte veti räg-time-soolopianojutun, sit muutaman dueton Gyanin kanssa joista keskimmäine oli semmone aika rokkiveto syntsalla ja sähköskitalla ja alkaen Terryn ragalaululla. Ne muut duetot oli sit sellasta tutumpaa kamaa akustisella ja flyyggelpianol.

Sit tuli paussi ja sejjälkee uus kolmiosanen biisi jonka oli säveltäny tilaisuutta varten ja nimenny sen TIETYSTI LOOPS FOR ANCIENT-GIANT-NUDE-HAIRY-WARRIORS RACING DOWN THE SLOPES OF BATTLEksi ilmeisesti juuri ennen keikkaa kun ei ennakkotiedoissa tätä oltu mainittu.

Se oli hyvä ja sit IN C oli iha mahtava. En oikein osaa tämmösiä juttuja sen tarkemmin purkaa palasiksi varsinkaan näin väsyneenä, mut ennen kaikkea sen takia koska oon ihan liian rahvas semmoseen

Täytyypä ihan mainita tästä aivan käsittämättömästä IN C versiosta... eli Walter Brodreau's L'infonien esitys vuodelta 1970. Tällainen todella groovaava versio, jota kannattelee sähköbasso ja on tässä kitaraakin, ja puhaltimia tietty... mutta vaikea kuvailla mistä on lopulta kysymys. Jos tykkää In C:stä silleen IHAN VITUSTI niin tämä kyllä räjäyttää pään.

Ja kuten tuossakin mainitaan, '70 tekniikka ei mahdollistanut sävellyksen taltioimista kokonaan, kela loppui jossain 40. syklin kohdalla (In C kokonaisuudessaan siis 53 sykliä/figurea) eli versio kestää puolisen tuntia. Mutta olennaiset kohdat tässä kyllä on. (Mikä onkaan SINUN suosikkisyklisi ?!)

Olen taas innostunut IN C:stä ja haalinut koneelle puolen tusinaa toinen toistaan kiehtovampaa versiota. Maailman hienoin biisi!
