"When I was speaking recently with a journalist from the London Times I said, 'I don't think Lou will ever fully recover.' We were not talking about his physical condition. Lou is in the best physical shape in years - strong and energetic. He has a wonderful new life now and can do anything he wants. We were talking about how a traumatic event - a surgery or a calamity - can change your life. These things make you reevaluate everything in your life. And while they mark you forever, these traumas can be extremely positive. And I think for Lou this is especially true. He gets a chance to see things with enormous perspective. We couldn't be happier at the way this turned out."

ei tässä oikein tiedä mitä ajatella, ehkä tavallaan kovin musiikkityyppi joka vielä oli hengissä (ainakin tosta vanhemmasta ikäpolvesta). en tunne läheskään koko tuotantoaan, joka muutenkin oli harmittavan epätasaista, mutta parhaimmillaan tietysti parasta ikinä. ja pelkästään velvet underground, luultavasti maailman paras bändi ikinä. kevyet mullat.

Jotain mielettömiä levyjä teki, WL/WH ehkä se huipuin, sooloura itelle aika tuntematonta, Transformer taitaa olla ainoa jonka omistan.

Ostin tuon muistaakseni '99 ja olin siihen vähän pettynyt, niin tietenkin piti löysyttää lompakon nyörejä ja ostaa Transformer, joka upposi sitten paljon paremmin. En vieläkään oikein tykkää Berliinistä, mutta onhan siellä hyviä biisejä. Ostin myös Ecstasy-levyn vuonna 2000, josta tykkäsinkin sitten tosi paljon. Kannattaa kuunnella ainakin Mystic Child, Ecstasy, Modern Dance, Baton Rouge ja Big Sky. Voisi laittaa nuo kuunteluun Spotifysta, kun kävelee kotiin.

Rock n Roll Animal on kyllä kans ihan mahtavan törkeä levy. Kaikki biisit vedetty aivan kohtuuttomaksi kitaranussimiseksi, ja huippuna vielä Heroinin AOR-proge-mehustelu. Ehkä maailman ainoa levy, jossa mauton kitaravöngyttely todellakin toimii.

I liked some of it, loved some of it, and didn't care for some, but the arc of his whole thing is just undeniably great and inspirational. 50 years of following his muse, whatever it happened to be at the moment. His music will either hit you or not, but one thing ought to matter to anybody who thinks music or art is worth pursuing for its own sake; Lou Reed, he did not give a fuck. Did not give a single fuck. I think of myself as not giving a fuck most of the time, but once in a while I wish to christ I could give not a fuck as thoroughly as Lou Reed.

To our neighbors:

What a beautiful fall! Everything shimmering and golden and all that incredible soft light. Water surrounding us.

Lou and I have spent a lot of time here in the past few years, and even though were city people this is our spiritual home.

Last week I promised Lou to get him out of the hospital and come home to Springs. And we made it!

Lou was a tai chi master and spent his last days here being happy and dazzled by the beauty and power and softness of nature. He died on Sunday morning looking at the trees and doing the famous 21 form of tai chi with just his musician hands moving through the air.

Lou was a prince and a fighter and I know his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill many people with the incredible joy he felt for life. Long live the beauty that comes down and through and onto all of us.
