Help Save Wayne Coyne's Instagram Account!

Since last fall Instagram has almost solely been Wayne Coyne's social media outlet (yes, he uses twitter - but mostly just auto-tweets from his Instagram account). Yesterday Instagram closed his account, clearing a treasure trove of concert photos, behind-the-scenes images of current Flaming Lips projects, rare band pictures and posters from their 30 year career, shots with other musicians (Patrick Carney, Jack White, Kevin Parker, etc), weird art, playful selfies and random scenes from his daily life. Wayne's account at instagram.com/waynecoyne totaled 1227 photos - all now gone. Though he has already opened a new account (http://instagram.com/wayneflaminglip), that won't bring back the past year of photos.

It will be sent to Instagram to state our case that deleting his account punishes us, Wayne's fans, not him. We are requesting his account be treated the same as other celebrities who have posted photos violating their terms of use yet remain active (i.e. Tyler, the Creator, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Chrissy Teigen, Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr).

A slew of Flaming Lips projects have been confirmed for the next few months, including an EP with Tame Impala in October and six new songs in association with the film Enders Game in November.'

Keep in mind, the EP is a separate project than the movie itself with likely only one song overlapping and the others merely inspired by the making of that song. So far only the tracklist for the B-side of the EP has been publicly revealed:

Another song is called If They Move, Shoot Em, and its speculated there could be a title track, Peace Sword. Wayne described the new music to Gawker, the recent collection weve done for the Enders Game movie is more live playing, but not meant to sound live?? its weird, we like the spontaneity but we still like it to sound like the machines are doing all the work.

The Flaming Lips will release Peace Sword, a six song EP inspired by the upcoming film Ender's Game. Peace Sword will be available digitally on October 29th and on CD and limited edition vinyl on November 29th.

The Flaming Lips split EP with Tame Impala in which the two bands cover each other is out now. Get you limited edition copy at one of the Tame Lips shows this week. Not at the shows? Worry not - a thousand copies available on-line maybe next week!!! according to Wayne Coyne. Some of the copies that will sell at store.flaminglips.com are still being made, so dont be surprised if its more like two weeks before they become available. Each copy is a one-of-a-kind, multi-color vinyl pattern designed by New Fumes. He estimates the majority of copies will sell online, not at concerts: only like 500 of the 2000 copies will be at the 3 shows. So, thats 1500 plus the ones that dont sell at the shows. Black Friday Preview
There's several special releases going on sale this Friday - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' double vinyl "Live at KCRW," U2's first new music of this decade, and a holiday album 12" picture disc from Nick Lowe among them. Then there's the unreleased performances of the Jimi Hendrix Experience live at the 1968 Miami Pop Festival that are out as a 7" and Zabriskie Point's soundtrack - featuring Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead - re-released on vinyl. But it's the Flaming Lips who most of all will have record collectors taking out a second mortgage on their house.
Five records have been announced and a sixth is likely (if not this week, then soon). That's three 12″ EPs, two 7″ EPs and one LP. Most notable is the release of the Lips second demo tape - never officially released in any form - on blue 7". There's 2000 copies, about 20 of which are being packaged with the group's "Fuck You Frog." This is an extremely rare tape recorded September 14, 1983 with these four previously unreleased songs:
1) "The Flaming Lips Theme Song 1983"
2) "The Future Is Gone"
3) "Underground Pharmacist"
4) "Real Fast Words"

paitsi että taidan olla tämän topikin ainoa kirjoittaja niin luulen ettei tätä edes muut enää lue. en tiedä, jotenkin vaan tuntuu että flaming lips on kuitenkin tällä hetkellä yksi niistä harvoista merkittävistä yhtyeistä, vaikka julkaisevatkin välillä vähän mitä sattuu. the terror on kuitenkin komea levy, jotenkin taas niin erilaista mihin oli hetken totuttu, tästä levystä puuttuu se leikkisyys, joka on ollut pinnalla esim. heady fwendissä, totista, alakuloista, jähmeää musiikkia. levystä on vaikea saada otetta, biiseistä tuntuu puuttuvan tarttuvat koukut, mutta kaikesta huolimatta tätä pitää silti kuunnella, kuten sanottu, my bloody valentinen ohella vuoden paras ulkomainen levy.

Flaming Lips Confirm 43 Minute Edit of 24 Hour Song Due Out Record Store Day 2014
As previously reported on this page, The Flaming Lips have been editing their 24-hour song "7 Skies H3" down to a more manageable size for vinyl release on Record Store Day 2014. Members of the band first discussed plans of issuing an abbreviated "7 Skies H3" at The Terror release party on April 3, 2013. Pitchfork reported an 80 minute edit was in the works shortly after that, and Wayne Coyne updated Alternative Press on the status of the project last December in a video interview recorded at Grimey's in Nashville.
Yesterday Flaming Lips manager Scott Booker shared a picture of the test pressing he was listening to on his facebook account. Today the Lips shared the photo on their facebook and twitter, confirming the April 19th release date. The album art is planned to be a moiré pattern.

Flaming Lips Releasing Devo Tribute on Record Store Day

The Flaming Lips are releasing 7,500 copies of their cover of Devo's "Gates of Steel" on silver 7″ this Record Store Day, April 19th. The "Single Pocket Jacket" package, part of Warner's "Side By Side" series, includes a 1981 live version by Devo of the same song as the B-side. In related news, 2000 copies of "DEVO Live At Maxs Kansas City 11/15/77" will also be released on RSD. Nine tracks from this show have previously been released on 1992's live comp "The Mongoloid Years," but this is the first issue of the full concert.
The Flaming Lips meanwhile have two other Record Store Day releases - a reprint of the classic "I drank blood with God" T-shirt (as shown here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid … 639529617), and a vinyl edit of 7 Skies H3.″ The latter will be pressed on clear 12″ vinyl and limited to 7,500 copies: http://thefutureheart.com/7skiesh3vinyl/

Now they're taking a stab at The Beatles "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band." Although the artist line-up is still being developed, we know Birdflower is covering Within Without You, Zorch will work on another track and Wayne is contacting Tame Impala, MGMT, Phantogram and Foxygen to possibly contribute.
Additionally, The Lips have begun filming a video for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."
Says one Steven Drozd: Weve done a couple of these things but I think Wayne is trying to make this one a little more high-profile.

"Pepper" particularly influenced Coyne growing up, though he only listened to the left side of its famous stereo mix. I listened to 'Sgt. Pepper' a lot, not realizing that huge chunks of vocals and instruments were missing, Coyne revealed in Uncuts September 2010 issue. When I hear a proper mix, it sounds wrong. My versions sound better! They have this eerie, empty quality.

If youve never listened to The Fabs stereo LPs on individual speakers the above videos are a perfect crash course introduction. The stereo mix of Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite has their playing on the left speaker with the vocals mixed almost entirely to the right, similar to the mixing approach of The Beatles early albums. Isolating the left side, it essentially becomes an instrumental with Pauls ever-playful bassline taking a lead role. Good Morning Good Morning has the Beatles performances on the left speaker and the brass arrangement played by Sounds Inc. on the right (along with Pauls bass, and the refrain inspired by a TV commercial jingle for Kelloggs Corn Flakes). Isolating the left side, the rhythm section rocking through Lennons odd meter phrasing is at the forefront rather than buried behind brass and the track takes on a different vibe than when heard conventionally (similar to the version on Anthology 2 except the stereo left version has Pauls fab guitar solo).
