Hinnat ovat vain tiettyjen levyjen tapauksessa taivaissa: Torch of the Mystics maksaa bändin omassa nettikaupassa 75 dollaria, eBayssä halvimmillaan n. 40 dollaria. Uusintapainokset olisivat kivoja. No, pitää ostaa näiltä jotain muuta.

[quote:1159f46fbd]Porest "Let's Roll" (MP3)
Mark Gerghis, who is Porest (as well as the man behind Mono Pause and the Thai pop-reverent band Neung Phak as well as the compiler of such great Sublime Frequencies releases as the Iraqi Choubi Choubi! pop collection plus the Cambodian Cassette archives), saddles right up alongside the godfathers of media manipulation, Negativland, for a brilliant and somewhat shocking release called Tourrorists! Here, Gerghis has turned the mirror magnificently on the manipulative qualities of our media, and of our contextualizations of outside cultures in general. It's sure to upset quite a few; simply said, buttons are happily being pushed here, ladies and gentlemen. Recurring themes throughout the album include 9/11 conspiracy, global cannibalism (financial, ecological), and the glut of opposing ideologies aiming to impose fear and presdesignated thought on the masses; Porest barfs it all right back with humor that may be indeed too dark for some and ultimately hilarious to others. Thanks to Mark for permission to post, you can check out his site here , buy the album here.[/quote:1159f46fbd]

[quote:202b10c4ae]Ri Be Xibalba is a new label focusing on so called "free music", but truthfully avoids any strict categories. The focus is on fine vinyl editions of otherwise unavailable material by artists with an established history of exciting work. The idea is to present releases with a high level of quality - limited editions will indeed be very special items with a lot put into them.
Our inaugural release will be a limited edition LP by Sun City Girls entitled Piano Bar. This album is a wonderful collection of previously unheard and absolutely crazy material that is not to be missed!
There are 497 copies of the LP:
* a "regular" edition of 389 copies come in a screen printed jacket with menu
* a special edition of 108 copies come in a wooden box with an exclusive LP, For Drummers Only, as well as a selection of specially made bar items.
The special edition of 108 copies will only be available directly from Ri Be Xibalba. The price for the special edition is $200.00; the regular edition sells for $30.00. At this point, both editions look likely to sell out before release. At the present, the only way to reserve one of these copies is to send prepayment. As a special incentive, orders paid for before the end of August will get free shipping with the United States. Considering how much the wooden box editions weighs, this is indeed a good deal. If you reside outside the United States, please contact me and I will work out a price with discounted shipping. Before sending payment, please send an email to Ri Be Xibalba to confirm availablity. At this point, it appears that both editions will be shipping in early September.

SUN CITY GIRLS: Djinn Funnel LP (NASHAZPHONE)
"Since I truly love every single thing they've ever released, the SCG have
never really been in consideration for the Blastitude Album of the Week --
it just wouldn't be fair to everyone else. But this brand new Djinn Funnel
album has to get the honor, because not only do I love it, I'm pretty sure
you will too. Look, I know how it is for some of you folks out there --
you want to dig the SCG, but every time you try out a random album,
something's not quite right. In fact, sometimes things are terribly wrong.
You just never know if you're gonna get soundtrack-worthy instrumental
elegance or offensive noise or kooky banjos or demonic theater or
someone messing around with a radio or Tibetan jazz or amuck theory or
spoken-word nonsense or live-to-boombox shit-rock or something else
completely. Me, I love it all, but if any of these things bother you, let me
reassure you that Djinn Funnel is one thing and one thing only: five long
cuts of molten power trio raga rock, or as the SCG website calls it, "electric
rock psych blues." Track one "Nites of Malta" is a new classic that sounds
like they're retooling Can's "Mother Sky" into something even weirder and
more thrashing. "Dukun Degeneration" is one of their finer downtempo
raga-bubble meltdowns since at least the Wah album. Side one closer
"Dark Nectar" is a drift-off, wandering somewhere into a high desert black
hole -- and it sounds great on vinyl. Side two opener "Red Sea Blues" isn't
quite like any improvised jam extension they've yet tried, hard-edged and
uptempo, but the sweet real folk world blues are in there a little more than
usual too. And, the rec closes with a definitive version of SCG standard
"Drifters of the Grand Trunk." I've been way into this funereal creeper ever
since I first heard it, live at the Empty Bottle in 2002, and then many, many
times after that on the ensuing crappy but legendary SLSK bootleg of that
show. And, it turns out, there had also been an odd little version of it hiding
out there toward the end of the great 2001 release Sumatran Electric Chair -
- but this Djinn Funnel version is the best one of all. They never leave the
groove, but they twist it inside out and then back again, and they do it in
so many ways . . . . Djinn Funnel also boasts impressive color artwork, and
lots of beautiful Arabic text, probably because the label is Egyptian /
Algerian. That's right, edition of 570, import only!"

Olipas paska tuo Torch of the Mystics kun yritin kuunnella. Tai ehkä ei nyt sentään... Ihan mielenkiintoiseltahan se oikeasti kuulosti, varsinkin ne alun sähkökitaravetoisemmat biisit. The Shining Pathan on jostain Sergio Leonen westernistä?

[quote:882a90336f="Mark Prindle"]Djinn Funnel - Nashazphone 2006
And it got me to thinking, "What if... the Sun City Girls operated a Funnel Cake franchise at your local Six Flags amusement park?" I think it would go something like this....
PERSON A: "Could I have one with just powdered sugar, please?"
SUN CITY GIRL/FUNNEL CAKE FRANCHISE EMPLOYEE: "No, but you can have about 40 minutes of 'electric rock psych blues' that we improvised between 1999 and 2001."
PERSON A: "Why would I want that? I want a funnel cake. A tasty, sugary, fried funnel cake."
SUN CITY GIRL/FUNNEL CAKE FRANCHISE EMPLOYEE: "How about I give you 'Nites Of Malta' instead? With its 2-note bass pulse, steady 4/4 beat, repetitive guitarwork and droney nasally vox, it sounds like a lot like Krautrock pioneers Can and is easily the best song on here."
PERSON B: "Hay, hurry it up! There are other people here who want funnel cakes too! I can't believe you, up there taking so long!"
PERSON A: "It's not my fault! He won't serve me a funnel cake!"
PERSON B: "He WON'T?! THAT LOUSY SON OF A COCK (*jams member of Sun City Girls through funnel into hot oil; eats*)"
Ha ha! Yes, it's fun to imagine things so let's do it some more. Now stay with me here -- WHAT IF.... The Sun City Girls were a trio of pornography video directors? I think it would go something like this....
PORNOGRAPHY STAR WOMAN: "Hay, should I take four guys up my ass and three in my bush and eight in my mouth and two in each ear and one in my belly button and 45 in each hand and six in my nose and three between my feet and seventeen between my tits and 71 in each heroin injection hole in my arm?"
SUN CITY GIRL/PORNOGRAPHY VIDEO DIRECTOR: "No, how about instead of doing that, you play an electric guitar along with two other people on bass and drums, and just jam -- so that whatever comes out sounds exactly like what any other amateur band with the slightest hint of creativity would come up with during one of their regular practice jams. Then we'll put it on a CD and see if obsessives buy it because it says 'Sun City Girls' on it."
PORNOGRAPHY STAR WOMAN: "What are you talking about? I can't play the guitar. I am incapable of doing anything besides allowing men to perform degrading sexual acts with my body. I am an actress."
SUN CITY GIRL/PORNOGRAPHY VIDEO DIRECTOR: "That's okay. 'Dukun Degeneration' sounds like a trio of deaf, drunk incompetents playing improvisational jazz for three and a half minutes, but we still put that on our new album."
PORNOGRAPHY STAR MAN: "Hey, what's taking so long? Hurry it up before I lose this erection!"
PORNOGRAPHY STAR WOMAN: "It's not my fault! They're not providing my character with any motivation! You'd might as well lose your erection at this point."
PORNOGRAPHY STAR MAN: "My erection!? No no, I said 'before I lose this ELECTION.' I'm Arnold Schwarzenneger, California governor and pornography star." (*flexes muscle, decapitating one of the Sun City Girls/Pornography Video Directors*)
Yes, the hilarious skits come fast and heavy when you're watching Saturday Night Live, but it got me to thinking, "What if... the Sun City Girls exercised even a semblance of quality control?" I think it would go something like this....
RECORD COMPANY GUY: "Hay, I've got this tape of crap you guys did. Can I release 500 copies of it so it goes out of print within 10 minutes and everybody else has to buy it on ebay for sixty jillion dollars?"
SUN CITY GIRL/QUALITY CONTROL PROFESSIONAL: "Are you out of your mind!? Sure, there's a nice dark undercurrent to this material, but come on -- I mean, 'Grand Trunk' is 12 1/2 minutes long and doesn't have a single change!"
RECORD COMPANY GUY: "Yes, but your fans don't mind. They're not very picky about these things."
SUN CITY GIRL/QUALITY CONTROL PROFESSIONAL: "If that's going to be your attitude, I recommend you go work for Eddie Money or some other 'artist' who doesn't care whether or not the listener receives a high-quality product for the money he has lain down. Jesus, have you even listened to 'Dark Nectar'? It's got like 2 minutes of cool psych licks, then the track drags on for another six while we try to find our frets through the peyote smoke!"
RECORD COMPANY GUY: "Wait, hold on. Aren't you the guys that released Wah a few years back? And don't even try to tell me that Live From The Land Of The Rising Sun City Girls is supposed to pass for 'high-quality' entertainment. Heck, Cameo Demons And Their Manifestations is so bad, I literally shoved it up my ass so my stomach acids would dissolve the CD and prevent it from stinking up my trash can!"
PRIEST: "Hay, what's taking so long? You're supposed to be in here reading to orphans."
SUN CITY GIRL/QUALITY CONTROL PROFESSIONAL: "It's not my fault - this shady businessman is trying to get me to hoodwink my trusting fans into wasting their money on a CD of substandard material!"
PRIEST: "He IS!? THAT LOUSY SON OF A PIECE OF SH (*demolishes record company guy's skull with clawhammer; ejaculates onto exposed brain*)
Yes, we've all had a great time laughing and sharing today, but remember: if you use your imagination, you are A LIAR. All writers of fiction are GOING TO HELL for the sin of LYING. [/quote:882a90336f]

unohdin muuten ihan että pändi julkaisi ainakin viisi (vai kuusi?) levyä viime vuonna, olishan joku niistä saattanut mahtua meitsinkin vuosilistalle, täytyy kaivaa esiin ainakin static from the outside set, joka on jäänyt ihan liian vähälle kuuntelulle. ei kyllä mielestäni pärjännyt edellisen vuoden radio-levyille, mutta olihan sillä hetkensä, ainakin se beach boys -coveri.

joo sunkkareita tuli kuunneltua viikonloppuna, varsinkin dante's disneyland infernoa, joka onkin aika lailla charles gocherin dominoiva levy. samoin libyan dreamia tuli soiteltua, sehän on jännä tapaus, bändi oli aasiassa matkoilla joskus -93 ja "julkaisivat" tuon 50 kpl painoksena kasettina, jota jakelivat paikallisille kasettikauppiaille. ei tainnut kovin moni päätyä sunkkarifaneille, ja cd-versiona tuo sitten ilmestyi vasta 2000-luvulla, ja on muuten carnival folklore resurrection -sarjan parhaimpia, ekana biisinä varsin raivokas luenta amboy dukesin psykeklassikosta "journey to the center of the mind". ikävä kyllä toka biisi on mitäänsanomaton improsekoilu, mutta onneksi loput biiseistä on varsin laadukkaita. koskahan vain jaksaisi pitää sen CFR-maratonin, jotkut noista levyistä on sen verran puisevan kuuloisia että hyvä jos on kerran jaksanut läpi kuunnella, mutta toisaalta onhan siellä helmiäkin joukossa.
